About Helen:

I am a well-traveled child from a military family, but I was born and raised in South alabama. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Troy University Dothan in Dothan, AL, with a 3.4 GPA. I can work with those that have unfortunately been labeled as "disruptive" or "hard to teach." My degree focused primarily on childhood and lifespan development, theories of learning, as well as Cognitive Psychology. By nature, I have always been a person that others turn to for help when understanding is just out of reach.

My specialties are English, Grammar, College-level Writing, History, and Test Preparation. However, I can comfortably help with Math and Science, up to the high school level. Otherwise, there are no age limits. If your child needs some extra help, if you are preparing to take your GED test, or you are a college student seemingly stuck, I can help.

I like to teach procedurally. I try to explain ideas in terms of steps and why each step is important to the whole picture. It often helps just to understand why things are done a certain way. This is effective in a school environment because each subject tends to build and be dependent on one's understanding of the previous concept. I am not that far removed from the school setting. I understand frustration, but I also know I can help anyone gain that sense of accomplishment that comes from understanding a concept that seems difficult. The most important things one can teach is not to allow others to label you. You can do anything. I will give my best to my clients and watch their best flow in return.
